Following on from my post about accessible bars in Lincoln, I thought I would do one about accessible restaurants too. There are a wide variety of restaurants in Lincoln serving food from a number of different countries such as Brazilian, Portuguese, Italian, Chinese, Thai, Turkish, Japanese, Mexican, and American amongst others. Let’s have a look and see how many of these are wheelchair accessible.

Nando’s

nandos-672x372

Location: Brayford wharf North

This restaurant serves it’s signature Portuguese style Peri Peri chicken. Personally I think it’s great and I highly recommend trying it if you haven’t before. The restaurant in Lincoln has step free access at the entrance, and there is a seating area on the ground floor along the front of the restaurant. However, the restaurant is on two levels and most of the seating is on an upper level where the bar is located. The disabled toilet is located on this level as well. There is a platform lift which will take you to the upper level. It’s just about big enough for my chair but they seem to always have tables in front of the door for the lift, so then they have to shift people out of the way if they are already sat there.

Disabled Toilet: yes

Square Sail

Location: Brayford Wharf North

This is a Wetherspoon’s pub/restaurant and the food is decent with a good variety. The place has level access throughout the bar and seating area.

Disabled Toilet: Yes, with a radar lock

Wagamama

4292817

Location: Brayford Wharf North

This restaurant serves Japanese food and is one of my favourites. The building has a ramp up to the front entrance and there is level access throughout the ground floor. There is also a good amount of room to manoeuvre in the restaurant. There is another floor with seating upstairs but they don’t have a lift. It would have been nice to have the option of sitting upstairs as well, but hey ho.

Disabled Toilet: Yes

Thai Marina

l

Location: Brayford Wharf North

This place serves delicious Thai food, and the interior is beautifully decorated in traditional Thai style with sculptures, paintings, lights, woodwork and even a pink cherry blossom tree. The restaurant is situated on a sloping street so the main entrance and foyer area is accessible, but to get to the seating you have to go downstairs. There is another accessible entrance which allows you to avoid the stairs, to the left of the main one, which the staff will open for you on request.

Disabled Toilet: Yes

China Hong

Location: Brayford Wharf North

This is a relatively new Chinese restaurant, which serves very nice food in a nicely decorated setting. The restaurant is located upstairs but there is a lift which takes you up to it.

Disabled toilet: No

Prezzo

Location: Brayford Wharf North

This Italian restaurant has steps up to the front door, but there is a bell which disabled people can ring for attention. We rang the bell but after a few minutes my carer went inside to ask someone to open the accessible entrance. The entrance in question is near the back of the restaurant, and there is just enough room for my Powerchair to get down the relatively narrow passageway towards the main seating area.

Disabled Toilet: Yes, but it was barely big enough. There was only just enough room to close the door behind my Powerchair, and it took a few attempts to get into a position where the door could close.

Harvester

Location: Brayford Wharf North

This family friendly restaurant serves a good variety of food and drink. The interior is all level access and there is a good amount of room inside.

Disabled Toilet: Yes

Chimichanga

Location: Brayford Wharf North

This Mexican restaurant has good level access throughout, and does tasty food too.

Disabled Toilet: Yes

Handmade Burger Co.

Location: Brayford Wharf North

If you like burgers then this is the place to go! They have hundreds of different types and flavours, so you will be spoilt for choice. The interior of this place is similar to Nano’s in that it is on two levels. They have a lift to take you to the upper level, and the toilets are located on this level.

Disabled Toilet: Yes

Ask Italian

Location: Brayford Wharf North

As you may be able to guess from its name this is another Italian restaurant (one of three in the Brayford area). There is level access at the entrance and throughout the inside, so no problems there.

Disabled Toilet: Yes

Zizzi

Location: Brayford Wharf North

The third and final Italian restaurant in the Brayford area (at least for now). The entrance and interior is all on the level, with plenty of space inside. In the summer they have tables and chairs outside so you can dine al fresco if you like.

Disabled Toilet: Yes

Wildwood

Location: High Street

This place serves a variety of food ranging from pizza and ribs, to risotto and salads. They also have a deli area you can pick up sandwiches if you like. There is level access at the entrance and throughout the interior with lots of room inside. There is a cinema upstairs which can be hired for private parties, but unfortunately there is no lift, so the disabled are excluded from said parties.

Disabled Toilet: Yes

Carluccio’s

Location: High Street

Another Italian restaurant here, just in case you can’t get enough pizza or pasta. The main front entrance Has Some Steps Just inside the Door. But If You Ask the Staff They Will Open a Side Entrance Which Is Wheelchair Accessible. The Interior of the Restaurant, Including the Deli Area, Is All on the Level. However, It May Be a Bit of a Squeeze past Some of the Tables If You Have a Big Powerchair like mine.

Disabled Toilet: Yes

Huckleberry’s Bar and Grill

Location: Clasketgate

This place is an American style smokehouse serving lots of meat such as steaks, burgers, ribs and chicken wings. The main front entrance is not accessible as the entrances to narrow. So wheelchair users have to go around the back, where an accessible entrance will be unlocked by the staff.

Disabled Toilet: Yes

Tiago Rodizio

Location: Silver Street

This place is a vegetarian’s nightmare, and a meat lover’s wet dream. It is a Brazilian all-you-can-eat restaurant where waiters continuously bring different types of meat to your table until you tell them to stop. The entrance is accessible, although there was a bit of a lip, but is not too difficult to surpass. The interior bar and seating area is level access. Unfortunately there is no disabled toilet, which is very disappointing.

Disabled Toilet: No

Marco Pierre White Steakhouse and Grill

Location: Brayford Wharf North

This restaurant is located in the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel hotel and looks quite posh, but I haven’t eaten here yet. Food on the menu looks nice but expensive – £15 for a burger! The whole restaurant is modern so access is good. The restaurant is on the fifth floor and there is a lift which will take you up.

Disabled Toilet: Yes

Churchill’s

Location: High Street

This is an English restaurant serving a good variety of food such as full English breakfast, scones and sandwiches, burgers and more. There is level access at the entrance and inside on the ground floor, however disappointingly there is no disabled toilet – all the toilets are upstairs.

Disabled Toilet: No

Cote Brasserie

Location: High Street

This is a French restaurant, and although I haven’t personally been yet it looks accessible on the photos. Plus I have emailed them and they said they do have a disabled toilet, which is great.

Disabled Toilet: Yes

Madame Waffle

Location: High Street

This place, as you can imagine, serves waffles with lots of different toppings. I had a waffle with sausages in it, which I’ve never had before. The entrance has level access, and there is a small seating area at the front of the restaurant. The bar and most of the rest of the restaurant is up a couple of steps, so it’s not accessible to wheelchairs unfortunately. But if you don’t mind sitting at the front you can still eat here, but you won’t be able to use the toilet.

Disabled toilet: No

So they are pretty much all of the restaurants that I have been to that are accessible in Lincoln. If there are any that I’ve missed that you have been to, please let me know and I will add them to the list.
